SAE fittings refer to the American standard of connections. Typically used as an end fitting in flexible piping to connect fixed and moving parts on machinery. SAE fittings are made of carbon steel and stainless steel and are electroplated for corrosion protection.
SAE fittings can easily be confused with JIC fittings in appearance, but the internal taper of an SAE fitting is 90° versus 74° for a JIC fitting. Special care must be taken when selecting a fitting, as the fit of these fittings is not compatible, although they have the same thread sizes and thread pitch. Sealing is achieved by tapered mating with the mating part of the fitting. This fitting can be used with both braided and coiled hoses.
Defining the type of fittings for VFD
To avoid guesswork and quickly determine the type of fitting, we recommend using our unique fitting and thread measurement kit. The kit includes a caliper to determine the diameter of the tail part of the fitting and nut, a thread gauge – to determine the type of thread, a cone gauge - to determine the outer and inner taper of the fitting. With the help of the kit, you can always quickly identify any of the fittings, determine the thread diameter, pitch, as well as the angle of the cone. The kit comes with a detailed description of the identification of the main types of fittings.
