Shelf life of high pressure hoses

Many companies ask us questions about how long you can store high pressure hoses (HPS) and how long their life cycle is. Please note that, in general, any references to storage times are always advisory in nature. Each industry, or country, or organization tries to specify storage requirements, but they all boil down to a high pressure hose life cycle of up to 6 years without inspection. If this period is exceeded, the hoses should be visually inspected, if necessary tested by standard methods and double working pressure.

The following are the main standards that recommend storage times for high-pressure hoses (HPH).

DIN 20066

The DIN 20066 standard states that the rvd can be used for a period not exceeding 6 years from the date of manufacture without further special tests.

BS 5244

British Standard BS 5244 states that hoses with a shelf life of up to 3 years from the date of manufacture do not need to be tested before installation. Between 3 and 5 years - a leak test is required. Between 5 and 8 years - leak test, burst test, impulse test and check for electrical conductivity and frost resistance before use.

ISO 17165-2 / SAE J1273

There is an international standard, ISO 17165-2, which recommends for certain types of hoses (VFDs) to be used for 10 years from the date of manufacture.

ISO 8331

Finally, there is the ISO 8331 standard, which recommends the use of hoses (VHF) no later than 6 years from the date of manufacture without special tests. ASSOGOMMA recommends the use of high-pressure hoses with a shelf life of 2 to 4 years.

ГОСТ 25452-90

In addition to international standards, in Russia the shelf life of high-pressure hoses is determined according to GOST 25452-90, which states that the warranty shelf life for high-pressure hoses is 6 years.

According to GOST 6286-73 in accordance with clause 6.2. storage period is 1 year; with clause 6.3. operation period is 2 years, except for high-pressure hoses of group Z (this group includes 99% of hoses supplied by our company). According to clause 6.4. for hoses (hoses) of group Z the service life is set by the manufacturer.

As a result of studying all of the above standards, you can decide for yourself on the shelf life and life cycle of a high-pressure hose.

Our company uses a method whereby all supplied hydraulic hoses have a shelf life of 6 years from the date of manufacture. In case the high-pressure hose has not been used before this period, it must be subjected to a mandatory testing procedure (static and impulse test), after which the storage and use period is extended, but not more than one year.
